Dead Boyfriend and YOU! (And possible new projects)

Dead Boyfriend means a lot to me. It's the first work I've ever finished, the first story I actually manged to tell from beginning to end. The place it holds in my heart will never be filled by anything else.

I say this because I want you guys to know it's not dead. It's not dried up, and it's not going anywhere. But like I said, it means a lot to me and I want to give it the care and attention it deserves. On the internet, I know these sound like platitudes. Believe me, I know. I've had online works I've been invested in reboot so I personally have experienced how frustrating it is as a reader to have to start all over again.

Trust me on one thing: It's going to be so completely, totally worth it.

Since Dead Boyfriend came to a close I've learned so much about it, as a written work and as a story. On the writing side of things, I started it as a weblit serial. Recently I've come to realize that it's not one. The story structure of Dead Boyfriend is pretty much classic novel from start to finish. When I started rewriting it was with this in mind.

Story wise, I had an idea a few weeks ago that put the entire tale in a new light for me. It was a game-changing idea, the kind of plot element that colors every single word written in the whole project.

On one hand it was kind of discouraging because I'd already made it to chapter ten in the rewrite. But the more I think about, the more I realize how necessary it is to the story. Yes, I'll have to start all over again, but I'm starting to believe the end product will make it all worth it. By the time the changes shake out we'll learn more about Regan's past, character, and mental state in one fell blow, even as it sheds more light on what should have been a major plot element that was barely mentioned in the original.

I also believe it will help soften him up and take the edge off his psycho-bitchitude. That's not to say all his smartassery will dry up, but I think he'll be a bit more open and likable to read about. Maybe it's in my head, but I've always worried that Regan would come across as too dickish to care about, which was never my intention.

What does all this mean for you? Well, it means it's going to be even longer until more Dead Boyfriend hits the internet. But worry not--traditional novel format or no, Dead Boyfriend's place will always be online and I'm not about to cut any of my original supporters out of the loop.

But until such a time as I actually have something to show all of you, I've had an idea. Dead Boyfriend isn't a serial, but that doesn't mean I can't write something that is.

The more I think about things, the more I realize that while I'm working on Dead Boyfriend in private I need to give the public something it can latch onto until the time is right.

For this purpose, I've created a brand spanking new account to post stories in while I'm writing Dead Boyfriend. I'm thinking that whatever ends up appearing on the account would be intentionally more webserial-like, i.e. 1000-2000 word chunks posted often. Kind of like the HOWL or Ira's POV format, only actually updated. (While we're the subject, I swear I've tried to sit down and actually write HOWL like a project but it doesn't wanna play that way, apparently. It comes when it comes to me.)

There are three ideas I've had lately that I'm thinking would make good serials. You can head on over to here and read about them. I'm asking you guys to tell me which of three sounds the most interesting to you. I wanna give you what you want.

Really, I think that's all I wanted to say with this post. Let you guys know what's happening, and ask what you thinks about things. So go on over to my new fic journal and lemme know.

I really, honestly appreciate everyone who has ever read my work, and thank all of you for your support from the bottom of my heart. To the subscribers especially, as I wouldn't be able to afford to keep this website running without you.

Anyway, I think that's it for now. It's been a weird year, guys. Srsly.

HOWL 1.1-2.5 Recap

HOWL 3.1 will be up momentarily, but I know it's been awhile. How about we look at the road so far?

Eric St. John, formerly the hunting partner of our own Regan St. James, sits in a bar in a nowheresville town called Howell. Regan has left their duo to hunt solo, and his former partner is reeling and bitter.

Enter Adam, a large, forcible, charismatic man that somehow charms the heretofore straight Eric back to his cabin in the woods for a night of fucking passionate enough to leave finger-shaped bruises on Eric's hips.

As any self-respecting straight guy, Eric is keen to flee the scene and blissfully pretend it never happened. Only one problem. They're snowed in, and there's no telling when a plow might make it clear up to them, and Eric's father is expecting him on a job.

Even worse, Eric seems incapable of denying the attraction that floods his whole body every time Adam rakes those golden eyes across him. After overhearing an ominous conversation between Adam and an unknown man, Eric discovers something shocking.

Turns out Adam is a real live werewolf, previously thought extinct, and Eric is what the wolves call a natural submissive: A straight man with a deeply hidden, yet insatiable need to be dominated. Especially by a wolf male.

At a crossroads, Eric realizes he has two choices. He can wait out the snow, return to his life, and never look back. Or, he can play Adam's game, submit to the wolf in exchange for information about his culture, information Eric's fellow hunters would consider invaluable.

We join our reluctant hero as he steps from the shower, naked and looking for Adam.

Character Name Change

Those of you that read the side stories will be aware of a character named Carlisle, a vampire in Ira's House. It's recently come to my attention that there is also a vampire in the Twilight series with the same name. Now, I named my vampire before I was aware of this, but still. It makes me itchy.

I'm thinking that it wouldn't really be a big deal if I changed Carlisle's name to something similar. He hasn't even properly been on stage yet, he's only appeared in two or three stories I think, so it's not like it would be disruptive or anything like that. I dunno, and I haven't made a decision yet. Thoughts?

HOWL 2.4

In the interest of full disclosure, I feel like I have to say this one took so long because I had no idea how it was going to go.
A blog post in which I am not dead

So I haven't posted in roughly two forevers. My bad, but for some reason HOWL 2.2 is kicking my ass. I might just have to scrap it and start over. I dunno why it's not gelling for me, especially because I know how I want the scene to go. It's just not coming out.

Actually I haven't written very much of anything lately. I'm not sure why, but hopefully I can start picking up again soon. It depresses me when I don't write very much, and a person on ADs doesn't need to be more depressed than he already is. Heh.

Anyway, sorry about the long wait on the project I started specifically to make me write faster. Hopefully it will be up shortly. Ciao.

Well all parts of episode one of Consorts have hit the site and I'm wondering what you all thought about it. Not just the story itself, but the format. Did that little voting experiment work for you guys? Was it fun and interactive? Or was it just needlessly complicated and confusing? Should I lock the format up with a key and pretend it never existed, or would you be guys be interested in seeing bits of other projects go up like this too?

Everything I do here is experimental and one-day-at-a-timey, so any and all feedback is a good thing. Please let me know what you think.

(Oh, and before you ask yes HOWL 2.2 is coming soon, but for some reason this installment is taking absurdly long. I can't get into it for some reason.)

Voting Experiment

I have this kinda weird idea. Some of you may recall when I had a link in the side bar that led you from voting for Dead Boyfriend to a special story. Well what if every day there was a new one and they were each connected?

I dunno, I think that idea could be cool, and also really interactive. Because if they changed every day you'd have to vote again each day or you'd miss a part. I've also been thinking this might be a good way to test new ideas and see what people like.

I couldn't do this all the time, naturally, but if I manged to cobble together, say, five pieces of an interconnected story and posted a new piece daily Monday-Friday of next week would anyone be interested?

Please let me know what you think, yea or nay.

Subscriber Only Forum coming soon

Hello all, I'm just making a quick little post to ask everyone that signed up for a monetary subscription to please make an account on this site. If they don't have one already. I will shortly be making a Subscribers Only Forum for the purpose of posting exclusive content that can only be seen there.

I'm going to try working on writing a little bit of something everyday, so hopefully it won't take long to have pieces to show. Oh, and when I have the voting incentives working again, I'll throw them up there every time they change, as well.

I'm asking for all subscribers to have accounts because it's easier for me to make an exclusive section that way. I can just set a user preference and bam. There's really no way to do it otherwise, unless I involve passwords and I get a headache just thinking about attempting that.

(Yes, I'm really bad about cross-posting blog posts to this LJ. I'll try and be better.)

Ask me anything

Or listen to my music. I just signed up for a Blip.fm account and a Formspring account.

Basically, what that means is that you can follow what music I'm listening to (should anyone be interested in that) or you can ask me any kind of question you want. If I get some particularly interesting questions I might even answer them. Of course, if you ask something about the story that's too spoilery I'll have to ignore of course. But you can ask me anything, I won't mind. Even awkward personal questions. Huzzah!

So, anyway, that's the what. Later.
